In recent years, millions of square meters of logistics real estate have been developed across the Netherlands. Many of these projects were designed by leading architecture firms like Convexarchitecten. One standout example is ‘The Anchor’, a multichannel distribution centre in Lelystad for Frasers Property Industrial. This building combines sustainability and design excellence, thanks in part to the aluminum windows, doors, and curtain walls supplied by Aliplast Aluminium Systems.
Architect Peter Couwenbergh of Convexarchitecten highlights the growing importance of expressive architecture in logistics. “There’s increasing public debate about the visual impact of distribution centres. To avoid monotonous ‘box-like’ buildings, we focus on expressive design, natural light, safety, and good working conditions. At The Anchor, offices are prominently integrated, and the façade transitions from grey to beige with vertical accents. Aliplast’s profiles play a key role here, with varied dimensions and materials like translucent panels complementing the glass.”
Daylight also flows into the logistics hall, improving the work environment. Large windows and light strips provide both illumination and views. A green roof and landscaped surroundings ensure the building blends harmoniously into its environment.

Designed to BREEAM-NL Excellent Standards
The Anchor was developed in line with the BREEAM-NL Excellent certification, emphasizing energy efficiency, comfort, waste management, ecology, and rainwater drainage. Sustainable materials were a priority. While aluminum production is energy-intensive, its long lifespan, low maintenance, and full recyclability make it a responsible choice. Aluminum can be endlessly recycled without losing quality, earning high marks on the Dutch MPG sustainability index (Environmental Performance of Buildings).
Certified Performance and Technical Excellence
Window and door supplier Vierboer BV worked closely with Aliplast to select the right profiles and finishes. The STAR75 system was chosen for its strong thermal and acoustic performance, with a Uw-value of 0.94 W/m²K and sound insulation of 47.1 dB. It also carries a Cradle to Cradle Silver certificate, supporting circular construction goals.
The MC Wall curtain wall system from Aliplast stands out with its sleek 55 mm profile line and wide range of styles and depths. It supports glass thicknesses up to 74 mm and delivers excellent airtightness, water resistance, and acoustic insulation. Aliplast’s R&D team has further developed this system into the new MC 55, which will soon launch. It allows for even larger glass panels (up to 850 kg) and offers more design flexibility.
A Promising Follow-Up
The Anchor was built by Goldbeck Nederland B.V., which has previously partnered with Aliplast on distribution centers in Groningen, Emmen, and other locations. The companies are now collaborating on a new BREEAM-NL Excellent project for DHG at Lelystad Airport Businesspark, again designed by Convexarchitecten and featuring Aliplast’s STAR75 and MC Wall systems.
