Light, space and elegance: discover a villa with breathtaking windows
In modern architecture, everything revolves around light, space and a sense of openness. Large window surfaces are no longer just an aesthetic choice—they have become an essential element that helps define the entire character of a home. They bring the outdoors inside, enhance the feeling of spaciousness and create a unique experience of transparency and living comfort.
In this article, we highlight a stunning residence where these principles come together flawlessly. A home in which architecture and its surroundings blend harmoniously, thanks to the thoughtful use of impressive glass surfaces and slim aluminium profiles.
Architecture and craftsmanship in harmony
Architect Hans Geldof explains: “This home is designed in a U shape around an atmospheric inner courtyard and consists partly of two storeys. The 1,560 m² plot offers a spacious setting, with the house itself having a footprint of around 360 m². It is part of a small-scale development of five lots in total. Thanks to its location on the western slope of a ridge, the house enjoys wide and open views.”
Thijs Verlinde from window manufacturer Aluvano adds: “For this project, one wish stood above all: maximum connection between indoors and outdoors. The client enjoys an exceptional elevated view and wanted to experience this as much as possible. Large glass surfaces, expansive sliding windows and a minimal presence of visible profiles—that was the goal. To achieve this, Aluvano selected the Max Light windows and Ultraglide sliding systems from system supplier Aliplast.”
The Max Light windows and Ultraglide sliding systems are ideal solutions for anyone who loves large glass surfaces and slim profiles without compromising on thermal performance. Max Light delivers excellent results, including an impressive Uw value of 0.97 W/m²K. The Max Light range is available in four styles—Modern, Steel, Design and Invisible—ensuring a perfect match for any architectural concept. For this residence, the Max Light Modern design was chosen: sleek, clean and minimalist.
For the sliding windows, the Ultraglide system was selected—an elegant and slender aluminium solution developed for large glass areas. Here, the Ultraglide Max Light version was used: with a central mullion of only 45 mm, it offers a strikingly minimalistic look. These sliding windosws can also be configured to open at a 90° angle without a corner post, and they are available with a flush threshold that can be fully integrated into the floor. The system meets all stringent requirements for both thermal and acoustic insulation. Moreover, three insulation levels are available: UG, UGi and UGi+.
Ultra slim aluminium window profiles: a real possibility
Jourik Duwez, Sales Manager at Aliplast, explains the major advantage of aluminium: “Yes, aluminium window profiles can absolutely be ultra slim. Thanks to the inherent strength of aluminium, it is possible to design windows with extremely narrow frames without compromising stability or insulation. This makes the material ideal for large glass surfaces and panoramic windows that create a seamless transition between indoors and outdoors. They offer an elegant appearance and allow the glass—and therefore the view—to take centre stage.”
Aluminium stands out for its exceptional strength. The material is naturally highly resistant to deformation, meaning it will not warp even with large surfaces. As a result, window constructions with significant spans can be perfectly achieved. For architects and homeowners, this opens the door to designing spacious and open façades, while maintaining a highly stable frame that delivers reliable performance for many years to come.
Short delivery times
Jourik also emphasizes that all development and production of the aluminium systems take place under one roof: “We extrude, powder coat and insulate our profiles ourselves. Because we manage these crucial processes entirely in house, we can offer significant advantages to our distributors—the professional window manufacturers. This is where we truly stand out compared to our competitors. We are not dependent on external suppliers, which makes us far more flexible and allows us to guarantee short, yet highly reliable delivery times.”
He adds: “Since every step of the coating process is carried out internally, we maintain maximum control over quality. By powder coating the aluminium with premium-quality powders, our windows and doors can withstand even the most severe weather conditions. That’s why we offer a standard 15 year paint warranty on our profiles. Additionally, we have an exclusive colour range with a 25 year paint warranty—unique in the sector, where 10 years is usual. End customers benefit from improved colour and gloss retention, increased scratch resistance, better UV resistance, longer durability against weather exposure and greater protection in aggressive environments and harsh climates. This ensures homeowners can enjoy their property for many years to come.”
